Messages only you and the people you talk to can read.
No phone number needed. Coming soon to the App Store for iPhone.
What Voal does
- Every message, photo, file, reaction and group is end-to-end encrypted, always, using the protocols Signal publishes, with protection against future quantum computers.
- No phone number, email or address book. You connect with a QR code or a one-time invite.
- The server keeps only encrypted envelopes, deletes them once delivered, and deletes anything left after 30 days.
- The app connects through Tor by default, so the server doesn't see your IP address.
- Read receipts and typing indicators are off, and disappearing messages are on, until you choose otherwise.
What it costs
Voal has no ads and no tracking, so the people who use it pay for it. Reading and receiving are always free. Sending needs a plan, and the first month is free.
Not for high-risk use yet. Voal follows published specifications and is heavily tested, but it hasn't had an independent security audit. If your safety depends on your messages staying private, don't rely on it until it has.
